I recently had the pleasure of working on a large community mural project in Abertridwr. The commission was to paint the insides and outsides of an old Railway bridge that once ran over the line that ran from the Abertridwr pit. The line is now a cycle track, but the bridge is heavily used by traffic above and below. The second part of this project was to transform two shipping containers that were an eyesore on the local fields.
We held brainstorming sessions in the local community to come up with ideas for the murals… resulting in a mix of old and new style images to represent the present and past, and a number of quotes in Welsh. “Look to the future” – “Edrychwch i’r Dyfodol”, “Remember the past” – “Cofiwch y Gorffennol” and “Our History, Our Country, Our Future – “Ein Hanes, Ein Gwlad, ein Dyfodol.”
